About Us
About Marcy
I’m a mom to seven (!) children & a teacher’s wife. I have been crafting since I can remember. My mom taught me to crochet when I was eleven, and taught me some basics of sewing around the same time. In my teenage years, Mom & I would spend hours scrapbooking. In the years since, I have worked to grow my skill set to also include knitting, felt flower-making, embroidery, and more. My interests include: coffee, chocolate, books, bookish humor, llamas, gardening, baking, Pride & Prejudice, Anne of Green Gables, lives of the saints, & hiking our local metroparks.
About Marzipantz Shop
I started this shop partially as a creative outlet, which I sorely needed, and partially to supplement our family income. For a while I had wanted to create heirloom Saint dolls for my own children, and not seeing exactly what I had in mind, set about teaching myself to make them. I already had very basic sewing skills, so I did a lot of trial and error with some patterns I sketched up. It's been a growing process, but I am so pleased that my dolls are bringing a little extra joy and whimsy to your lives.
If you would like to read more about my creative process, check out my guest post for the Why Make Beautiful Things series on Katie Bogner’s blog: Look to Him and Be Radiant.
Marzipantz is partnering with Catholic Charities of Acadiana to bring full size (17") dolls to you! These dolls are still hand-made by Joy Nepal, and are available to you through Crossroads Collective, the Catholic Charities store in Lafayette, LA. What we love about this project is that we are able to make more dolls available while focussing on ethical means, providing training and jobs to women and men in Nepal, while the profits are helping Catholic Chartities of Acadiana feed and shelter the homeless in their community. We call this a "social enterprise" and seek to use the power of business to help transform our communities in responsible ways. We want our work to recognize and affirm the dignity of every person involved.
About Michael:
Michael is Marcy’s husband, so he gets to claim all the children she does. They have been working collaboratively for several years on childrens books. First, Sleepytime Saints: A to Z, and more recently, Faithful Friends: Favorite Stories of People in the Bible, which will be available October 2023. Michael earned his Masters degree in Classics (Latin and Greek), and is currently the dean of curriculum and history teacher at a classical school. He likes research and creative writing, good coffee, and has a mile-high book stack on his bedside table.
